چکیده

Crude oil plays an important role in providing the energy supply of the world, and pipelines have long been recognized as the safest and most efficient means of transporting oil and its products. However, the transportation process also faces the challenges of asphaltene-paraffin structural interactions, pipeline pressure losses and energy consumption. In order to determine the role of drag-reducing surfactant additives in the transportation of crude oils, experiments of wax deposition inhibition and drag reduction of different oil in pipelines with a biobased surfactant obtained by enzymatic syntheses were carried out. The results indicated that heavy oil transportation in the pipeline is remarkably enhanced by creating stable oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion with the surfactant additive. The wax appearance temperature (WAT) and pour point were modified, and the formation of a space-filling network of interlocking wax crystals was prevented at low temperature by adding a small concentration of the surfactant additive. A maximum viscosity reduction of 70% and a drag reduction of 40% for light crude oil flows in pipelines were obtained with the surfactant additive at a concentration of 100 mg/L. Furthermore, a successful field application of the drag-reducing surfactant in a light crude oil pipeline in Daqing Oilfield was demonstrated. Hence, the use of biobased surfactant obtained by enzymatic syntheses in oil transportation is a potential method to address the current challenges, which could result in a significant energy savings and a considerable reduction of the operating cost.

Application of the Avrami Theory for Wax Crystallisation of Synthetic Crude Oil

Wax crystallisation and deposition from offshore reservoirs have been causing serious problems such as plugged pipelines and reduced production flow rates. This issue is receiving more attention from the researchers and for commercial applications due to the shift in trend from using offshore production facilities to pipelines utilization. The aim of this study is the implementation of the Avra...

Assessing the Biological Inhibitors Effect on Crude Oil Wax Appearance Temperature Reduction

To assess the effect of micro-organisms on the reduction of wax appearance temperature (WAT) of waxy crude oil, some appropriate strains were obtained from contaminated samples exposed to hydrocarbon compounds for a long time. By conducting some screening tests, four strains were chosen and aerated in a bioreactor; they were then grown in some hydrocarbon environments in order to produce biolog...

MODELING OF ASPHALTENE DEPOSITION IN PIPELINES

This paper is concerned with asphaltene deposition in fluid flowing through pipelines. Brownian diffusion and drag, gravitational, thermophoresis, buoyancy, and shear removal are considered as possible mechanisms in the asphaltene deposition process. The thermo-physical properties of the fluid were obtained from Iranian oil fields. A model was used in the pipeline deposition modeling to predict...

An Investigation of the Effect of Aromatic, Anionic and Nonionic Inhibitors on the Onset of Asphaltene Precipitation

The organic deposition particularly asphaltenes has many detrimental effects on the oil industries, such as plugging in pipelines, wellbore and facilities and subsequently, considerable reduction in well productivity.Asphaltenes are the most polar fractions, which they have been dispersed as colloidal clusters in crude oil. The accumulation of these clusters lead to the flocculation of colloids...

Measurement and Prediction of Time-independent and Time-dependent Rheological Behavior of Waxy Crude Oil

Wax deposition phenomenon changes the rheological behavior of waxy crude oil completely. In the current work, the rheological time-dependent and time-independent behaviors of waxy crude oil samples are studied and flow curve and compliance function are measured for the oil samples with various wax contents at different temperatures. A decrease in temperature and an increase in wax content lead ...
